SPOILER ALERT!

The Sea Of Tranquility

The Sea of Tranquility: A Novel - Katja Millay

Oh why did you disappoint me so?!

I felt like this book was a heavy weight that I was just trying to pull off of me so I could go do other things. How could every one love this book and I feel like it was LONG, LONG, LONG. It's 428 pages LONG. The Pillars of The Earth, which I loved, felt shorter then this one and that had 983 pages.

So you know what the story's about. One girl who has had a tragic event happened to her and one boy who has had his family members die off leaving just him.

I see that it's this story about wounded/"ruined" people, but seriously, I felt no love for the characters. I didn't feel happy at the end, I felt nothing. Shouldn't a book that is that long make me feel something?

There are many things that p*ss me off in this book

- One being the fact that the incident with Kevin goes unchecked by authorities. This was just stupid!

- Two - What happens after

they sleep together. Because really Josh was an ass and so was "Nastya".

(show spoiler)

Three - why would the parents let her go with her aunt that works nights and never go see her. As a parent  I would have been the one registering her for school, checking up on her. For Goodness sake's your her parents!

For those that want to know what the hell happened to her and don't want to read the whole book..just go to page 296.

Random quotes

"Too many obligations. People like to say love is unconditional, but it's not, and even if it was unconditional, it's still never free. There's always an expectation attached. They always want something in return. Like they want you to be happy or whatever, and that makes you automatically responsible for their happiness because they won't be happy unless you are. You're supposed to be who they think you're suppose to be and feel how they think you're supposed to feel because they love you, and when you can't give them what they want, they feel shitty, so you feel shitty, and everybody feels shitty. I just don't want that responsibility."

"I'm surrounded by love and I don't want any of it. I piss all over what he would thank God for, and if I needed more proof that I have no soul, then there it is."

This has nothing to do with the story, or the writing, but this library paperback, which they have put the hard coating on so it lasts longer , has been poking me the entire time I was reading. The very corner is so sharp I could probably use it to slice bread.

I cringed every time I reached to pick it up know I was gonna have a mark on my left palm where that stupid corner kept hitting. I may have to cut that corner off before returning the book...

a fun thing to do with this book is try to focus on the spilled ice cream instead of the people's faces. it's hard ! But if you tilt it a little bit you can see the ice cream instead of the faces. I don't know why, but this amused me.

* A review that I totally agree with would be by Her Fine Eyes *
