Hello Book, So Long Sleep...

I'll read anything that looks interesting or has been recommended by friends. Most of the books I've really enjoyed were either Dystopian/post-apocalyptic or Young Adult.

Protagonist swap?

The Gray Man - Mark Greaney

What if the protagonist was Charlize Theron?

I'm not sure how that would work out since I haven't read the book and know nothing about it.  (I do know that I like Charlize Theron.)

according to Trackboard :

"The story centers around American operative Court Gentry, also known as ‘The Gray Man’. Gentry has become a legend in the covert realm for his ability to accomplish the impossible before fading into the ether. Now, Gentry is in a race against time to save his daughters from a team of government assassins determined to eliminate them. "

Currently Reading (aka still reading these)

The King of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business - Neil Postman, Andrew Postman Deceptions - Kelley Armstrong The Art of Hearing Heartbeats - Jan-Philipp Sendker

I can not believe how I'm dragging my butt on these books! it's  not like they are bad and not holding my attention, just..I don't know not in the reading mood.(again!)

The King of Attolia

This is the third book in the series. the first book was a slow read for me , but the second book I flew through and enjoyed a lot. This book is bringing in a new character and I'm not sure what to make of him so far. Also I'm not sure what Eugenides up to either.

I'm on page 44.

Deceptions: A Cainsville novel

Also a third book in a series.

I'm on page 25 of this one, so not to far at all. I think I may fly through this one if I just give it more of my attention. I really love the character Gabriel.

*side note - I hate this red cover on this HB copy. It makes it feel like those Contemporary Romance/Suspense books. (not that there is anything wrong with those, but it just isn't this type of story)

Amusing Ourselves to Death

Reading this one to see if I want to add it to my son's reading list for school. I'm not that far in to it , but it so far it's interesting.

“Television is our culture's principal mode of knowing about itself. Therefore -- and this is the critical point -- how television stages the world becomes the model for how the world is properly to be staged. It is not merely that on the television screen entertainment is the metaphor for all discourse. It is that off the screen the same metaphor prevails."

Need to pick up The Art Of Hearing Heartbeats and read it before next Thursday, which is Book Club day!

*shit, I just saw some of the ratings on this one and honestly, not looking forward to reading another book that got bunches of 2 stars for a rating.  Who's picking out these bad books?!

Nat Wolff will be lead

Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom - Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata

"In development for more than half-a-decade with filmmakers as diverse as Shane Black and Gus Van Sant, Warner Bros. Pictures’ American live-action adaptation of the manga series Death Note looks to be finally kicking into gear under current director Adam Wingard as Variety reports that the film has found its leading man in Paper Towns star Nat Wolff!

The supernatural thriller aims to bring to the big screen the 13-volume series previously adapted as both an anime and as a live-action film franchise in Japan."

Pitt, Carrell & Bale all in the Movie

The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine - Michael Lewis

"The real story of the crash began in bizarre feeder markets where the sun doesn't shine and the SEC doesn't dare, or bother, to tread: the bond and real estate derivative markets where geeks invent impenetrable securities to profit from the misery of lower- and middle-class Americans who can't pay their debts. The smart people who understood what was or might be happening were paralyzed by hope and fear; in any case, they weren't talking." - Goodreads

"Here’s a movie that wasn’t on anyone’s radar. The Big Short is the story of four financially-minded kinsmen who teamed up in the face of the housing bubble burst that led to financial collapse in 2007-2008. With that description in mind, you might think this movie was made in a similar fashion to HBO’s Too Big To Fail from 2011—but you’d be wrong. This movie is directed by Adam McKay (of the Anchorman movies, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers) and stars Brad PittSteve Carrell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Max Greenfield." - Nerdist

I'm tempted because of Bale, but..... this just isn't my kind of thing.

The Girl on the Train Movie news: Evans , Leto?

The Girl on the Train - Paula Hawkins

News from Comingsoon:

"Two more stars are eyeing leading roles in DreamWorks’ upcoming adaptation of Paula Hawkins‘ runaway bestseller, The Girl on the Train as The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that both Chris Evans (Marvel’s The Avengers, Before We Go) and Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, Dallas Buyers Club) have entered negotiations. They join the previously announced stars Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Woods), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Hercules) and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer, The Hole) in the Tate Taylor (The HelpGet on Up) film.

DreamWorks picked up the rights to The Girl on the Train movie in 2014 and had Erin Cressida Wilson (Secretary) begin the adaptation process even before the novel was published in January by Riverhead Books and sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Sinus crap and a new book to movie trailer

Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong - David Walsh

So my three day sinus headache is finally gone! Hallelujah!

This time I had vertigo with it which sucks, but it is kinda funny to have your kids watch your eyes as you open them so they can se them moving to the side (involuntarily).

Hopefully I'll finish up Age of Miracles tonight and have a post about it tomorrow.

I did see a new trailer for the movie The Program which is based on David Walsh's book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong.

Watch the trailer Here. I love Ben Foster, but I don't think this is gonna be big on my list to see or read.

The 5th Wave gets early trailer

The 5th Wave - Rick Yancey

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

The Thief - Megan Whalen Turner

Have you ever looked at a book cover and not really see the whole "picture".

I just did that, as I'm typing up this post.

You see I have the hardback copy and it has a really old cover. See look at it. Who in the world would pick this book by it's cover?

i just noticed the shadow of the hand. I feel stupid. In my defense, this copy is really old and the background is just as dark as the shadow ,so everything kinda blended in together.

I know a lot of people loved this series, so I'm hoping my excitement level will go up with the next book.

I felt like this one was just okay for me. Part of my problem is that I compared it a little bit with Finnikin Of The Rock by Melina Marchetta. I wasn't purposely doing it, but my mind immediately started thinking about that trilogy and how much I loved it and then the comparing started. (I need to say that I thought Froi of The Exiles was the best book in that trilogy, one of my favorites!)

I'm not saying I hated this book. I think "Gen" is an interesting character and look forward to reading the next book. I just wish it was as great as I thought it was going to be.

I really enjoyed the stories Gen and Magus told.

OT: Orphan Black season 3

Honestly, I do read books. In fact, I just finished Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief.

But I needed to talk about Orphan Black.  I loved season 3! Every time I think they've painted themselves in to a corner they have something up their sleeve.

Well, all of it except "pupok". What the hell was that all about?!

This season's big draw for me:

Ari Millen as RUDY!

There is just something about him

Look at that smile!!

Other things I loved:

Felix - the episode where he dropped his accent, I loved it!

Ferdinand - he's one of those crazy people you really want on your side.

Things that I'm sad about:

Paul's dead,

"It was never Beth I loved."

Delphine is dead (or is she?)

I'm also sad that Rudy's dead. But you have to admit this part

was pretty awesome lol

(show spoiler)

Another thought...I dislike Shay, a lot.

I loved her as Kenzi on Lost Girl. But really I'm not feeling any chemistry between her and Cosima.

How can there be people out there that still aren't watching this show!!

In Real Life by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang

In Real Life - Cory Doctorow, Jen Wang

Things I liked:

The art.

Anda

That it's about online gaming.

Talks about LARPing ,RPG and MMO

"Farming"

yes, I used to be a "gamer" GW (guild wars) was my game!

I never played a male character. I think it's funny when I hear about woman that play male characters so they get picked for raiding and such.  I know plenty of guys that would play female characters...just because they thought they were sexy lol.

Here's two of my characters. I miss them...

No thanks, I'd rather keep my friends

Kill Your Friends - John Niven

I've never even heard of this book. And from looking at the ratings on here and over at GR I see it's not that popular. But it got a movie!

Staring: Nicholas Hoult, Ed Skrein, James Corden

"Kill Your Friends is a dark, satirical and hysterically funny evisceration of the record business, a place populated by frauds, charlatans and bluffers, where ambition is a higher currency than talent, and where it seems anything can be achieved - as long as you want it badly enough." - goodreads

Usually a trailer makes me want to read the book, not this one.

I don't have any interest at all.

Sorry Nicholas.

See International Trailer HERE.

100 Bullets: First Shot, Last Call

100 Bullets, Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call - Brian Azzarello, Eduardo Risso

I had a tough time with this one. I almost put it down and said "F*ck it"

Here's my problem with it.

"I gots no job."

"Don' hardly"

"waz'at?"

"eh, Li'l brah?"

now imagine every character talking like this.

it gets on your nerves real fast.

So why did I keep reading....I think the story plot in the first section wrapped up nice so I continued to the second story.

(Which did not play out the way I thought it was going to.)

I am on to the second book. this one will tell me if it's worth my time to read any more.

The Dressmaker

The Dressmaker - Rosalie Ham

While I was watching the trailer for the new movie The Final Girls (which I plan on seeing because Alexander Ludwig's in it) and came across the trailer for the movie The Dressmaker. It's a movie based on Rosalie Ham's book by the same name.

"After twenty years spent mastering the art of dressmaking at couture houses in Paris, Tilly Dunnage returns to the small Australian town she was banished from as a child. She plans only to check on her ailing mother and leave. But Tilly decides to stay, and though she is still an outcast, her lush, exquisite dresses prove irresistible to the prim women of Dungatar. Through her fashion business, her friendship with Sergeant Farrat—the town’s only policeman, who harbors an unusual passion for fabrics—and a budding romance with Teddy, the local football star whose family is almost as reviled as hers, she finds a measure of grudging acceptance. But as her dresses begin to arouse competition and envy in town, causing old resentments to surface, it becomes clear that Tilly’s mind is set on a darker design: exacting revenge on those who wronged her, in the most spectacular fashion."

I need to read this one soon.

Trailer Here.

Lazarus Vol. 2 Lift

Lift - Michael Lark, Brian Level, Greg Rucka

I liked this 2nd volume more than the first. Probably because it expanded beyond Forever and let us see some of how the "waste" live. it also gave us some back history on Forever and how she's struggling with the message that her family is not her family and that is not her father. She keeps looking back at when she was little and her interaction with her trainer and her "father".

I wasn't able to get the 2nd volume I had to actually take out Lazarus The First Collection. Which is Volume One & Two together. So I got to see all the neat maps and the history of the Families that are in the back of that collection. it really adds to the story line.
