Maus Volume 1 by Art Spiegelman
Honestly, At first I had a hard time with this true account being told as though they were mice. But once I could see who was represented by each animal ( mice, cats, pigs) things went smoothly for me.
There were several things I didn't know that this book brought up. Like if you were missing so many teeth they didn't want you in the Russian Army. How many times people were moved. It's very interesting and I'm afraid most people would over look this book because of the mice on the front cover. It looks like a child's graphic novel, not an adult story.
I wonder about the small comic book he wrote that his father found. it was odd and now I have questions about his life prior to him writing this book.
I still want to know, why mice? Why not just draw the story with people instead?
(so I looked up some articles on this)
I'm off to read the second book.
